Titanium dental implants
Implants are a titanium piece inserted into the jaw bone in order to support artificial teeth. They can be placed for one individual tooth or may support several teeth such as a bridge. In more complicated cases there may be 4-6 implants supporting a full denture – what is commonly called an “All on Four”. Implants have proven to be reliable and successful options for missing teeth over several decades now. Some medical conditions such as diabetes or factors such as smoking may reduce the success rates.
Dr Jamie Norman places implants in our practice for straightforward cases. We also work with several trusted specialists in Toowoomba, for those cases that might be a little more complex. Once the implant is placed, there is a period of healing required which is usually approximately 3 months. During this period the bone integrates with the implant and it becomes extremely strong and solid within the bone, ready to be restored. We then take a scan to send to our Australian based laboratories and a custom abutment and crown is constructed. It is returned and then we screw or cement the restoration onto the implant underneath.
