Low visibility alternative to braces
Clear aligners are the alternative to braces for straightening teeth and can be used for adults and teens alike. They are thin, clear appliances worn over the upper and lower teeth in sequence to gradually move the teeth step by step. As with all orthodontic treatment, thorough planning is required and Clear Aligners may or may not be suitable for your particular needs. We need to assess your needs and discuss with you what may be possible. For some cases, referral to a specialist Orthodontist may be required. For clear aligners to work best, attachments which are made of a tooth coloured filling material need to be bonded to the surface of some of the teeth. These attachments allow the aligners to direct pressure in the way that is needed for your teeth. These attachments are removed at the end of treatment. IPR or interproximal reduction is something that is commonly needed in a clear aligner treatment plan. IPR is gently filing in between the teeth, slightly opening the spaces between the teeth to allow more room for them to move and fit in the arch nicely. We need to see you regularly during your treatment – usually around 6 weekly. As with all orthodontic treatment, good home care and regular checkups and cleans are important. Once your teeth are straight, you will be provided with retainers. It is very important for you to wear your retainers as directed to prevent any unwanted movement and to best maintain your smile.
